Responsibilities of the County Clerk
- Work closely with Commissioners
- Records minutes of Commission meetings
- Maintains files for minutes and resolutions
- Assist in budget preparation
- Keeps accurate account of the distribution of funds for various departments and prepares financial statements for the county
- Pays bills and services rendered for different departments
- Makes all journal entries pertaining to accounts and budgets
- Maintains tax rolls and real estate tax statement information
- Adds and abates maintenance of records to tax rolls
- Administers oaths of office
- Monthly payroll for employees and related reports
- Election publications, candidate filings, registration of voters, absentee ballots, printing of ballots, arranging for election workers, tabulation of voted ballots
- Selling of hunting licenses, fishing licenses, State park permits, boat registration, and special hunting permits
- forms for requesting birth and death certificates are also available
- Birth and death records from the 1800's to 1911 for the county are available
- Land records from the 1800's are also available
- Works closely with the Appraiser's and Treasurer's offices

Term
The County Clerk is elected to a four year term in November of the Presidential Election year.
The Clerk takes office the second Monday in January following the election.
